The other day I wanted chocolate.  I had to have something right away!

There is always some sort of candy in my baking cupboard, but I wanted something more than just a chocolate bar.  I kept thinking about these candy corn gooey cake bars and how good they were.  As I dug through the cupboard, I pulled out a bag of York peppermint patties.  What kind of yummy dessert could I come up with???

The wheels in my head started turning and I grabbed a chocolate cake mix and got working.

These bars are so easy to throw together.  There is really no limit to the flavor combinations.  When I have made them before, I have put cookies, coconut, and candies in with the cake mix.  But this time I wanted a simple gooey chocolate bar that said Hello winter!

Or should I say Hello fat pants, because I couldn’t stop eating little pieces of these bad boys.  These are the perfect bar to satisfy your chocolate cravings.  Chocolatey, gooey, minty…it is a good thing I sent the rest of these to work with my husband because I would have eaten the entire pan before dinner.

What?  You’ve never done that before?  I guess that’s just me:-)

How many of you like fun gadgets?  Are you a techie baker?

Today I want to share with you about the KICMount for the iPad.  We use our iPad for everything.  To look up recipes, view music videos, play games, surf Facebook, find answers to homework questions…it basically does everything.  Except hang in the air…until today that is.

The creators of the KICMount have designed this case with strong rare earth magnets.  It will hang tight on any metal surface.  Now I can have the iPad off my counter and out of harm’s way when I am baking.   I just pop the iPad into the case and stick it to my refrigerator.  I love that it keeps the iPad safe from me spilling water or flour all over it.  I don’t always pay attention when I get into my baking zone:-)

Guess what?  One of you will soon have baking peace too.  Enter the rafflecoptor below to win a KICMount for your iPad.

Today is a double giveaway kind of day:-)  How would you like to keep your iPad and KICMmount safe when you AREN’T using it?

A cute polkadot case would do the trick right?  I was able to review a laptop sleeve from mod.  (I chose the laptop sleeve instead of the iPad sleeve because my fingers are crossed that Santa will leave a new laptop under the tree this year:-)  These cute cases are very fashionable…no more plain black and boring.   I am in love with how adorable this case is and how it represents my style completely.  The case is well padded and lined with a soft minky type fabric.  It keeps your iPad or laptop safe while running errands around town.  mod.  also carries a variety of cute camera straps and accessories online.

*So one BruCrew reader will win a Kicmount case AND a $25 gift certificate to spend at mod.  Just enter the rafflecoptor below:-)

Peppermint Pattie Gooey Cake Bars

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Yield: 16 squares

Peppermint Pattie Gooey Cake Bars

Chocolate cake mix bars filled with Peppermint Patties and drizzled with sweetened condensed milk. They are absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

1 chocolate cake mix
1 egg
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
24 small peppermint patties (11 oz. bag)
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 c. chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine the cake mix, butter, egg, and vanilla in a bowl and mix until crumbly. Press 1/2 the batter into a greased 8x8 pan.
  2. Unwrap the candies and lay on top of the cake dough. Press the rest of the cake dough on top. (It is easiest if you flatten small pieces of the dough in your hand first.) Drizzle the milk over the top and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake at 350* for 35 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting.
